Winter School that will present the voluntary tools to implement environmental and social responsibilities of companies, non-profit organisations and institutions in the field of forest management, wood processing and trade
The Balkan Region is rich of very productive forests; timber production and wood products exports are playing a key role in the economies of Croatia, Bosnia, Romania but also in other countries of the region the forestry sector is playing a major role in the local economies.
Not always forests resources are used in a sustainable way: over- and mis-use of forest resources and corruption along the wood chain are quite common problems in many Balkan countries. Italy, Germany, Austria and other European countries are the leading importers of wood products from this area and Western European consumers and companies are co-responsible for the above mentioned problems.
In the long-run, to maintain the productive function of the forestry sector in the Balkan region, the principles and the tools of social (or responsible) marketing need to be implemented both by the Balkan and the Western European forest owners and wood industries and traders.
